In a shocking case out of Queensland, an Australian influencer has been arrested and charged with poisoning her one-year-old daughter. Authorities allege that the woman orchestrated a distressing online narrative surrounding her child's supposed battle with a terminal illness, ultimately to solicit donations and grow her online following.
The allegations came to light after the baby was admitted to the hospital in October with a severe medical episode, prompting doctors to notify law enforcement. Queensland Police later determined after months of investigation that the 34-year-old had been administering various prescription and over-the-counter medications to the infant without medical consent, placing her in dire emotional and physical distress.
Detective Inspector Paul Dalton, addressing reporters, described the charges as “repulsive” and highlighted the significant violations of trust involved. Reports suggest that the woman went to extreme lengths to acquire unauthorized medication, allegedly misusing leftover prescriptions under the guise of care.
Following tests conducted in January, the presence of unapproved pharmaceuticals was confirmed. Allegedly, she managed to raise approximately A$60,000 (around $37,300) through GoFundMe campaigns, money that is now being processed for repayment as authorities continue their investigation.
While the police initially looked into other individuals in connection to the alleged abuse, no evidence has been found to charge anyone else at this time. The influencer is scheduled to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday, as the case continues to garner widespread attention and concern for child welfare.
