Senegalese police have reported the arrest of 14 individuals accused of being involved in a paedophile gang that operated between Senegal and France.
The suspects, all Senegalese nationals, are part of a 'transnational' criminal syndicate that has been active since 2017, according to police statements.
They face serious charges including, but not limited to, organized paedophilia, pimping, rape of minors under the age of 15, sodomy, and intentional transmission of HIV/AIDS. The group allegedly coerced boys into engaging in unprotected sexual acts with predominantly HIV-positive men, recording the acts for distribution.
Four individuals are reported to have acted on behalf of a French accomplice arrested in April 2025, allegedly for financial compensation.
The arrests were made after extensive searches across various neighborhoods in Dakar and in Kaolack, located 200 kilometers southeast of the capital. The suspects were brought before a judge on Friday.
A comprehensive police operation involved raids on the residences of the individuals, where evidence related to the alleged crimes was collected.
The Criminal Investigations Division (DIC) noted the significant operation dismantled a well-organized transnational criminal network with a base primarily in Senegal and France, indicating a high level of international cooperation which included a French police delegation.
Authorities have pledged to continue their efforts in combating such criminal networks, offering a toll-free number for the public to report any pertinent information.
