WASHINGTON (AP) — Melania Trump unveiled the White House holiday decorations with the theme ‘Home Is Where the Heart Is,’ emphasizing the importance of unity and shared traditions among Americans. Her first holiday display since resuming her role as first lady also pays tribute to the upcoming 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.

This year, the official Christmas tree, now displayed in the Blue Room, honors Gold Star families who have lost loved ones in military service. Traditionally located in the East Wing, its placement changed due to the renovation for a ballroom initiated by the previous president.

The East Room, decorated in patriotic red, white, and blue, showcases national symbols, including golden eagle tree toppers, to herald the America250 national celebration. The historic Christmas display features appropriately adorned trees with stars, roses, and oak leaves, representing the cultural tapestry of the nation.

Public tours of the updated festive décor will resume soon, with expectations of thousands of visitors celebrating the essence of the season through tours and receptions. The White House has expressed that Christmas is a time to recognize what makes the U.S. exceptional, as simple acts of kindness reflect the enduring spirit of generosity, gratitude, and patriotism.

Melania Trump personally selected each aspect of the holiday adornments, with planning commencing months in advance. A sizeable team of decorators helped create this year’s display, employing 75 wreaths, 51 Christmas trees, over 2,000 strands of lights, and more than 25,000 feet of ribbons alongside other festive embellishments.

The majestic tree in the Blue Room not only evokes the ultimate sacrifice of military families but also displays ornaments symbolizing each state and territory. In the Green Room, a family-friendly area showcases portraits of past presidents fashioned from Lego pieces, while the Red Room celebrates youth with beautifully delicate butterfly decorations.

Despite past challenges, the holiday spirit continues to fill the hearts of Americans nationwide. This season reflects the resilience and unity that bind communities together, fostering a sense of belonging and home during a time of gatherings and celebration.
