SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — San Francisco residents have been experiencing atypically warm March temperatures, as the city records its hottest month in over two decades. With temperatures approaching 90°F (32°C), this unusual winter heatwave is impacting numerous areas across the West, sparking joy and concern among locals.

In stark contrast, regions in the Midwest are still grappling with snow and icy conditions, showcasing the contrasting extremes of U.S. weather. As people flock to parks to soak in the sun, many are also grappling with the lack of air conditioning in their homes.

“It feels like summer already in March. That’s crazy, but I love it,” expressed Justyce Roliz, a local dog walker enjoying the sunny weather at Crissy Field. Residents like Jessica Ling are enjoying the heat despite the challenges it brings, balancing between enjoying the outdoors and managing heat at home.

Records have fallen across the Bay Area, with San Francisco International Airport hitting 83°F (28.3°C) and other nearby cities like Redwood City reaching highs that broke previous records. Meteorologists have noted the heat is unusual yet not unprecedented, recalling similar patterns from prior years.

Further south, Las Vegas is bracing for its earliest recorded triple-digit temperatures—between 94°F and 98°F (34°C to 36°C)—possibly reaching as high as 100°F (37.7°C). Tourists in the city are advised to stay hydrated and find shade while enjoying their time there.

As authorities in Grand Canyon National Park issue warnings of extreme heat, visitors are counseled to avoid strenuous activity during peak hours. Similarly, White Sands National Park is preparing for a surge in visitors, urging performers to heed weather forecasts as temperatures could rise into the mid-90s (35°C).

In Colorado, the ongoing heatwave follows a notably warm winter that has raised concerns over water supply and snowfall for the upcoming summer months. Residents are being reminded to be mindful about water use as the warm temperatures might lead to unsustainable practices in lawn care.

With extreme temperatures affecting vast regions, the public is encouraged to remain aware of both the joy and caution that come with these unusual weather patterns.
