British rapper Yung Filly, whose real name is Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, will face a retrial in an Australian court on three rape charges after a jury’s mixed verdict on the case originating from a 2024 incident in Perth.
The allegations stem from claims that, after performing in the coastal suburb of Hillarys, Barrientos entered a hotel room with a 20‑year‑old fan and, while initially engaging in consensual sex, later turned violent, ignoring her pleas to stop. The jury found him not guilty on the three rape counts but reached a verdict for the other charges, acquitting him on one assault and one strangulation charge while convicting him on two assault convictions.
Barrientos will next appear in court on 27 August to seek a variation of his bail, though a date for the retrial has not yet been set. He will not receive sentencing for the two guilty assault charges until his retrial concludes.
The prosecution has stated that the complainant is ready to give evidence again. During the trial, Barrientos testified that he had a “fancied” the woman when they met at the concert venue and that their contact in the VIP area was where the fan leaned over a barrier. He described the subsequent hotel encounter as “vibes were good” between them.
Prosecutor Danielle Clarke described him in closing arguments as an “entitled” individual with a “moderate degree of fame” who violated the fan “in the most intrusive way possible.” Barrientos’s defence lawyer argued that the accuser’s evidence was marked by “inconsistencies, embellishments and outright lies.”
The 31‑year‑old, who was born in Colombia and raised in the UK, has risen to fame through his YouTube collective Beta Squad and television appearances, such as the celebrity version of Bake Off on Channel 4 and shows on BBC Three.
