The conflict between Ukraine and Russia has taken a new turn as both nations accuse each other of hundreds of violations of a ceasefire coinciding with Orthodox Easter celebrations. The Ukrainian military reported over 2,299 violations by Russian forces since the truce began on Saturday, while Russia countered, claiming Ukrainian forces committed 1,971 violations, including three counter-attacks in the Dnipropetrovsk region.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed hope that the ceasefire could be extended to facilitate peace negotiations that have stalled due to continued violence. However, he condemned Russian attacks and stated that Ukraine's military would respond accordingly. The situation remains precarious as Russian leaders have indicated a return to military action following the holiday.

Despite the ceasefire, reports indicate that Russia launched 28 attacks and carried out nearly 2,000 drone strikes during this period, raising questions about the effectiveness of the truce. In one incident, a Russian drone struck an ambulance in Ukraine’s northern Sumy region, injuring three medics.

Both nations engaged in a prisoner swap on Saturday, exchanging 175 prisoners, indicating a complex dynamic even amid escalating hostilities. As the conflict drags on, the nations remain at odds over the terms of a more comprehensive ceasefire, with accusations flying and the prospect of genuine peace appearing dim.
