Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar was violently assaulted during a town hall meeting in Minneapolis on Tuesday, when an audience member utilized a syringe to spray an unidentified liquid at her, according to local authorities.

Despite the attack, Omar reported no injuries and continued her speech. I'm ok. I'm a survivor so this small agitator isn't going to intimidate me from doing my work. I don't let bullies win, she stated on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

The substance sprayed on Omar was described by witnesses as having a sour smell, but officials have yet to determine its exact nature.

Fifty-five-year-old Anthony James Kazmierczak has been charged with third-degree assault and is currently in custody, as confirmed by the local sheriff's office. During the chaotic scene, Kazmierczak reportedly accused Omar of pitting people against each other, although the exact meaning behind his statement was unclear.

Omar, who made history as the first Somali-American elected to the U.S. Congress in 2019, has been a vocal critic of former President Donald Trump. In her remarks during the town hall, she condemned recent federal immigration policies and called for the abolition of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), highlighting rising tensions following recent shootings of U.S. citizens by immigration officers.

She also demanded that South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, a Trump ally, resign or face impeachment over her role in the contentious immigration policies.

As the conference resumed, attendees praised Omar’s courage for continuing despite the attack. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey condemned the violent incident, affirming that such actions have no place in the city.

As she proceeded with the event, Omar insisted, We will continue... we are Minnesota strong. Her resilience in the face of adversity continues to engage her constituents, particularly amid heightened scrutiny regarding immigration enforcement and violence in their communities.
