A man has been arrested in connection with a deadly car bomb attack that killed eight people and wounded 20 others in Delhi last week, authorities have said.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) stated that the car used in the attack, classified as a 'terrorist incident' by the government, was registered in the suspect's name. He is accused of conspiring with the alleged suicide bomber and is reported to be a resident of Indian-administered Kashmir.
The explosion occurred near a metro station close to the iconic Red Fort, a significant landmark in Delhi. The agency has collected evidence and has interrogated multiple witnesses, aiming to piece together the circumstances surrounding the blast.
This incident marks the first explosion in the heavily fortified city since 2011 and has raised further security concerns. The attack occurred on Monday evening at a busy intersection when a vehicle detonated, leaving the area littered with charred remains of vehicles and debris.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi characterized the attack as a 'conspiracy', stressing the government's determination to bring the culprits to justice. Meanwhile, opposition leaders expressed their sorrow and concern regarding the state's security measures in light of this devastating event.
