Australia's eastern coastline has recently faced a tragic wave event, leading to multiple drownings and raising alarms about beach safety.
The unfortunate incidents began as two men were found dead on the New South Wales coast, followed by the discovery of another victim's body near Tathra. On the other side of the state border, two individuals from a group swept into the sea in San Remo, Victoria, succumbed to the treacherous waters, while a man remains missing following a similar incident near Sydney.
Responding to the tragedy, Victoria Premier Jacinta Allan expressed her condolences to the families affected, calling the series of events a "horrific start" to the Easter holiday. Surf Life Saving Australia’s Adam Weir urged holidaymakers to prioritize their safety by only swimming at monitored beaches. He emphasized the perilous nature of unpatrolled coastal areas, where a shocking 630 drownings were recorded over the last decade. Amid warnings of hidden dangers lurking beneath the surf, Weir reiterated a crucial safety message: "Stop, Look, Stay Alive."
As searches continue for the missing individuals, these recent fatalities highlight the pressing need for awareness and safety on Australia’s beautiful yet hazardous shores.
