On Tuesday evening, neighborhoods in Ballymena were again subjected to violence, with homes and businesses attacked, and vehicles set ablaze. According to the Police Service of Northern Ireland, officers faced grueling assaults involving petrol bombs, bricks, and fireworks, resulting in injuries to 17 police personnel. In response to escalating chaos, law enforcement deployed a water cannon and plastic baton rounds to disperse the crowds.
Earlier that day, protests extended beyond Ballymena, impacting areas including Belfast, Lisburn, Coleraine, and Newtownabbey. The unrest was ignited by the court appearance of two 14-year-old boys who have been charged with the serious sexual assault of a teenage girl. Both young suspects are said to deny the charges, with their identities confirmed through a Romanian interpreter.
