In brief

The crash that claimed 260 lives continues to haunt families, with a recent investigation revealing fuel issues but failing to clarify the cause of the disaster.

Ravi Thakur was at work delivering lunch tiffins to doctors at a local hospital when a passenger aircraft tragically took off from a nearby airport and moments later crashed into a dining facility where his mother, Sarla Ben Thakur, cooked meals. The incident, which occurred on June 12, resulted in the loss of Sarla and her granddaughter, Adhya, who had a swing set up in the kitchen corner, allowing her parents to keep an eye on her while delivering food.In the weeks following India's worst aviation disaster in almost thirty years, Mr. Thakur devoted himself to understanding the events surrounding the crash that claimed at least 260 lives, including 241 of the 242 passengers onboard. The families of the victims, including Mr. Thakur, remain unsatisfied by the preliminary investigation report released on July 13, the day that would have marked Adhya's second birthday. The report stated that fuel was shut off to both engines mere seconds after takeoff, leading to a loss of thrust before the plane even left the airport's perimeter. However, it provided no definitive answers regarding how the fuel was turned off or why it occurred. The limited information included a puzzling exchange between the pilots in the cockpit, with one inquiring if the other had moved the fuel switch, to which the latter replied he had not.As grieving families navigate their loss, they continue to search for clarity and justice amid a simple report that has only deepened their anguish and uncertainty.
