In brief
All 172 passengers and six crew members evacuated safely from a burning American Airlines jet at Denver International Airport after engine vibrations led to an emergency landing.
Passengers aboard an American Airlines flight experienced a harrowing situation when they were forced to evacuate onto the tarmac as smoke and flames engulfed the aircraft at Denver International Airport. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident, which occurred after the flight, originally en route from Colorado Springs to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, diverted to Denver due to reported "engine vibrations." The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that after landing at approximately 5:15 PM local time, the Boeing 737-800 caught fire while taxiing on the runway. Dramatic footage showed passengers huddled on the wing of the jet, some clutching personal belongings as flames flickered near the bottom of the plane. The use of inflatable slides facilitated a prompt and safe evacuation onto the ground. American Airlines reported that all 178 people on board, including 172 passengers and six crew members, were unharmed during the incident. The airline also acknowledged that the fire was attributed to an "engine-related issue," while the FAA has stated that it will conduct an investigation to ascertain the cause of the emergency.
