Born to a humble family in Iriga City, Aunor built an illustrious career spanning over seven decades in television, music, and film. In 2022, she was honored with the title of National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts, the highest recognition for artistic achievement in the Philippines. She first gained fame in the 1960s as a singer before transitioning to acting, ultimately accumulating over 200 credits in film and television.

One of Aunor's most significant roles came in the 1995 film "The Flor Contemplacion Story," where she portrayed a Filipino maid executed in Singapore for a crime of passion.
