Nigeria influencer arrested over $28m cocaine seizure destined for the UK
A 49‑year‑old influencer known as “KC Luxury” and with 700,000 Instagram followers was detained at Lagos airport before boarding a flight to Paris, according to Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
He presents himself online as a businessman dealing in gold and luxury goods but the agency alleges he is the so‑called Nigerian “arrowhead” of a cartel trafficking cocaine from South America through Nigeria to Europe and Asia.
The operator, who has not commented or been charged, was seized along with 184.5 kg of cocaine concealed in brown boxes at a Lagos courier facility on 3 August.
NDLEA reports the drugs are part of a long‑running international network that has used Nigeria as a transit hub to export drugs to the UK, other parts of Europe and Asia.
Micheal was arrested near the boarding gate of Murtala Mohammed International Airport on 13 August after attempting to leave the country on a business‑class flight to Paris. He was found carrying more than $12,840 in cash in euros, pounds and Nigerian naira, plus expensive jewellery described as ‘consistent with the proceeds of his illicit trade’.
Another suspect, 33‑year‑old Lawal Mujab Kehinde, who worked for a logistics company that transported the cocaine, was also detained. NDLEA claims he acted as a staffer for the cartel, packaging the drugs for export and receiving cash payments.
NDLEA’s General Buba Marwa noted in a Lagos news conference that the arrests demonstrate the effectiveness of international cooperation. He added that further members of the trafficking network will be tracked, even if they attempt to escape to departure gates.
Details are still pending as UK authorities are reportedly being queried for their perspective on arrests that may have already taken place in the United Kingdom.
