Four people have died after a six-storey building which was being refurbished partially collapsed in the centre of the Spanish capital, Madrid.
The city's mayor, Jose Luis Martinez-Almeida, said the bodies of the last two of the people reported missing were recovered on Wednesday morning - some 15 hours after several floors at the property on Hileras Street collapsed.
Local media reported that the victims included a 30-year-old Spanish woman, who was managing the project, along with three male workers from Mali, Guinea and Ecuador, aged between 30 and 50. Additionally, three other individuals sustained injuries in the incident.
The former office block was undergoing renovations to convert into a hotel. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collapse.
Spanish emergency services deployed multiple crews, equipped with drones and sniffer dogs, in a search effort following the incident on Tuesday. Two of the victims' bodies were recovered on Tuesday night.
All our love and support go to their families, friends, and colleagues in this very difficult time, Martinez-Almeida conveyed in a post on social media platform X.
A construction worker expressed to Reuters that he was working on pumping concrete into the lower floors when he witnessed the building's sudden collapse, fleeing after a significant cloud of dust enveloped the area.
Despite the internal collapse, the building's façade remained intact. According to the developer Rehbilita's website, the structure was undergoing a comprehensive renovation for its new purpose as a four-star hotel.
