Israel has confirmed that Iranian security chief Ali Larijani, alongside Gholamreza Soleimani, head of the Basij paramilitary force, have been killed in air strikes targeting key military figures in Iran. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) stated these operations aimed to dismantle leadership perceived as threats following the assassination of the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Defence Minister Israel Katz remarked that Larijani’s elimination would place him alongside Khamenei in death, signalling a bold move in Israel's military strategy against Iranian leadership.

Iran's authorities acknowledged the deaths of Larijani and other key figures amidst escalating violence in the region, as the conflict has sparked Iranian missile strikes retaliating against Israeli positions and allied states.

Larijani, a critical figure in Iranian politics and former nuclear negotiator, was known for overseeing significant military operations. His latest role as secretary of the Supreme National Security Council underscored his influence in Iran, particularly amidst recent protests against government crackdowns.

This wave of violence has led to substantial casualties on both sides, deepening the humanitarian crisis, as oil prices soar and conflicts around the Strait of Hormuz threaten economic stability in the region.

As tensions mount, observers are wary of the potential for broader regional conflicts, involving numerous nations as escalations in military activities continue following these high-profile assassinations.
