Overnight Russian air strikes have killed at least four people, including three young children in Ukraine's north-eastern Kharkiv region, local officials have reported.
Regional head Oleh Synegubov stated that two boys, both aged two, a one-year-old girl, and a 34-year-old man died after a drone hit their house in the town of Bohodukhiv.
In addition to the fatalities, a 35-year-old pregnant woman and another woman, 73, were injured in the strike on the town, according to Synegubov.
This assault comes as Russia resumes airstrikes after a temporary pause influenced by international conditions, including requests from global leaders amid an extreme cold snap affecting the region.
Bohodukhiv, situated northwest of Ukraine's second-largest city, has endured relentless attacks in recent days, with previous casualties including a 41-year-old woman and a 10-year-old boy.
Simultaneously, in Donetsk, Russian forces reportedly dropped seven bombs on Slovyansk, claiming three more lives, including that of an 11-year-old girl.
President Volodymyr Zelensky has decried the escalating violence, highlighting that the ongoing strikes are targeting Ukraine's transport and energy infrastructures, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis as a state of emergency regarding energy shortages has been declared in the Kharkiv region.
As a harsh winter descends, tens of thousands across Ukraine face severe power cuts, with many lacking access to essential heating and water resources.
The situation remains dire as efforts for a cease-fire and negotiations are complicated by the continuing conflict.
